4 Ways to Recycle & Repurpose Food Packaging Boxes

This year I’ve made it my priority to be far more mindful of my waste, so I’ve come up with some creative ways of putting leftover packaging to good use! I’m a huge fan of a cheap and easy DIY as well, so I want to share these 4 ways to recycle & repurpose food packaging boxes… Hopefully it will inspire you to recycle some of your own, and save space in your recycling bin!

So many varieties of different foods come packaged in boxes. Cereal, snack bars and ice lollies to name a few. Over on Instagram I run a DIY hashtag #DIYmyFriday with the lovely Paola Roder . We decided to do a live craft tutorial earlier this year showcasing different ways you can repurpose your food packaging. It really is so simple, and great fun to do too!

Whether you want to create a nice handmade gift for a loved one, or want a fun, crafty session with the kids… This is certainly an idea that anyone can easily do with just a few, simple household products.

  • Empty food boxes – Save space in your recycling bin and save all of your empty packaging.
  • Decorative paper – This can be wrapping paper or leftover wallpaper samples, whatever you wish!
  • Double sided sticky tape
  • Scissors
  • Ruler

What can you make?

In the video, myself and Paola demonstrate how to make 4 different household items that are proven to be extremely useful…

Desk Organisers

Desk organisers are perfect for making a comfortable and controlled working environment. There’s nothing I hate more than having an untidy desk! These desk organisers were made simply by cutting boxes to different heights and arranging them in a staggered formation. Then, I used wrapping paper to cover them for a decorative effect.

Magazine Files & Letter Holders

Paola made handy magazine files and letter holders from cereal boxes. She used a vinyl sticky wrap to cover them which is even more efficient because it saves fiddling with tape. Magazine files are perfect for your desk or for filling your living room shelves, and letter racks make for the perfect hallway accessory!

Drawer Dividers

My office drawers have never felt so organised since making these drawer dividers. Again, they’re so simply made just by cutting boxes to different sizes. Spend some time puzzling them together to get an arrangement you like… And ensure you leave a 2cm gap between the top of your drawer, so that it doesn’t get stuck when opening!
