5 Fun Paint Project Ideas to Makeover Your Home
I want to share these 5 fun paint project ideas to makeover your home. The expression ‘It’s amazing what you can do with just a lick of paint’ has never been truer in my house…
Over the past year I have been busy thinking up new, exciting ways of injecting some colour around the house. Myself and my partner, Tom, decided that we wanted to start off with a clean white canvas when we first moved in, and painted all of the walls white. After a few months, we had a good feel for the the rooms, the lighting and the atmosphere we wanted to create which meant it was time to be creative!
5 Fun paint project ideas to makeover your home…
Injecting colour in to a room with paint is a quick and cost-effective way of brightening up any space. It also allows you to decorate to your own taste and show off your own unique style. Sometimes a paint project can be a little daunting though, especially if you’re not used to picking up a paintbrush. That’s why I want to share 5 fun paint project ideas with you, to give you some inspiration to help makeover your home in confidence.
1. Feature Fireplace
A fireplace & chimney breast is the main focal point of a living room in any period property. I knew instantly that I wanted to create a feature out of ours. It’s no secret that I LOVE a good colour clash, so I thought up the idea of painting the face of the chimney breast a different colour to the reverse. The pop of yellow down the sides really makes the teal stand out and it really sets off the cast iron fireplace with the original Victorian tiles.

2. Painted Headboard
Don’t want to spend 100s of pounds on a fancy bed frame? No worries! You can create your own feature headboard with ‘just a lick of paint’. A painted headboard is a great way of framing your bed and making the room feel more bespoke and cosy. Experiment on paper with different shapes or patterns you many wish to use. I opted for a triangle mural then hung a shelf above it to add some storage. This created even more of a feature.
3. Bold Front Door
I can’t begin to describe how house proud I have been since painting my front door bright yellow. It really has lifted my mood and every time I return home it puts a huge smile on my face. Without a doubt, this is the happiest door on the street and I have zero regrets about going for an extremely bold colour. It goes without saying that the colour options are endless when it comes to choosing the perfect colour for your door. This yellow colour is called ‘Brilliant Blooms’ by Valspar. Valspar have 1000s of colours to choose from, all available in their exterior wood finish.

4. Stencilled Hearth
I have written a completely separate blog post on how to stencil a fireplace hearth but I couldn’t resist including it in this post.
Stencilling is a fun and easy way of transform a surface or piece of furniture without having to splash the cash. You can essentially transform something from drab to fab, and it’s very easy to do once you know how. My fireplace hearth was a bit of an eyesore to begin with. I wanted a quick fix and cost effective way of giving it a makeover to transform the original feature back to full glory. A simple stencil did the trick!

5. A Corner Mural
Murals don’t need to be restricted to just one wall. Why not make a feature out of a dull corner by connecting two walls with a painted mural. I had a very miserable looking corner in my office to begin with. The cupboard was plain white and needed a pop of colour to brighten up the space. I sketched a triangle mural across the walls and decided to paint the woodwork too, including the doors & skirtings. No regrets! It completely transformed the space and makes an instant feature in the room.
