DIY Painted Ghost Leaves
Looking for a quick and cost-effective craft to do with the kids this Halloween? Well here’s my simple tutorial for DIY painted ghost leaves…
Halloween doesn’t have to be expensive. This year especially, it’s important to make more mindful decisions about how we choose to spend our money. I for one haven’t been as lavish this year when decorating my house for halloween, and I’ve found myself looking for ways I can still enjoy some decorations without breaking the bank. We can still have fun this halloween, and we can definitely still decorate, we just have to think outside of the box!
DIY painted ghost leaves…
Here’s a simple & fun craft that you can do in just a few hours. On your next atumnal walk, pick up some fallen leaves and put them in your pocket. Try and find leaves that still have stems on them, as this makes for the perfect ghost tail!
To make these painted ghost leaves, you will need…
- Leaves (ideally with stems)
- White all-purpose acrylic paint
- Card/newspaper to protect surfaces
- paint brush
- marker pen
- Blue/white tack

How to make painted ghost leaves
Begin by wiping the leaves with a damp cloth to remove any dirt or residue and allow to dry. Once dry, paint the leaves white ensuring you protect your worktop surface.
You may need to do two or three coats depending on the paint you use and the colour of your leaves. Allow to dry completely. This will take approx 3-4 hours.
Once the leaves are completely dry, it’s time to draw on their little faces. You can choose to do this however you want and experiment with different expressions. For mine, I drew three dots making the mouth a little longer as though it’s making an ‘Ooooooh’ sound.
Finally, use blue tack to stick your ghosts in to place. I decided to arrange mine around my mantel mirror and cluster them as though they are flying in a group. Enjoy playing around with them until you find an arrangement that you love.
