Happy 5th Birthday That’s so Gemma

Happy 5th Birthday That’s so Gemma! I honestly don’t know where to start with this post, so I’m going to go to right back to the beginning…

5 years ago I posted my first ever blog post. I’ve often pondered on deleting my earlier posts because quite frankly they’re incredibly cringe-worthy, but I think they tell a story and show the progression of That’s so Gemma.

5 Years strong…

For those of you who may be new to this blog, That’s so Gemma started off as an amateur craft blog. At the time we was renting a flat so I wasn’t able to get hands on with DIY, and to be totally honest at this point I hadn’t even found my true love for interior decorating & design yet. I was very creative though, and decided to launch That’s so Gemma as a way of documenting my creations.

Fast forward a year or so and I was scouted by HomeStyle Magazine . By now I’d had permission to re-decorate our bedroom and apparently it was worthy of a feature! Believe it or not, the scheme of the room was nautical… Not a tasteful nautical either, the tacky kind! But lo and behold it had been spotted on my humble blog, and I was soon contacted to arrange a photoshoot.

When photographer Fiona Walker-Arnott came round to shoot it, she mentioned I’d work well as an interior stylist… At this time I was now working as a Visual Merchandiser for Zara Home, so I’d already got a taste for creating interior displays. The instant I found out what ‘interior styling’ was, I knew that’s what I wanted to do. Within two months I’d sacked the boss, and decided to try and ride solo…

And now…

Fast forward to the present day, 3 years and 10 months later. I haven’t once looked back! It’s been a thrilling, exiting, scary & overwhelming few years, but I’ve loved every stepping stone I’ve walked upon.

Without That’s so Gemma, I would not be where I am today… So to my 5-year-younger self, thank you for starting this journey.

An even bigger thank you to everyone who has helped me take steps in the right direction along the way. I have so much love for those who have supported & guided me, it has been so so appreciated! And thank you to my readers, followers and subscribers for sticking with me and motivating me to keep at it! A huge thank you to everyone, from That’s so Gemma
