How to Get Involved in The Kindness Rock Project
How to get involved in The Kindness Rock Project; What you need to do, and what it’s all about…
It’s been a crazy year thus far hasn’t it. With lockdown upon us, I couldn’t resist getting involved in The Kindness Rock Project. It’s a movement that has been trending on social media and it’s a lovely way of spreading some well-wishes and kindness to complete strangers.
This time is as good as any to spread some love. Stress levels are high and there’s a concerning level of anxiety among us. So, I want to explain to you how to get involved in The Kindness Rock Project. It’s a great way of getting creative, and sending a little bit of happiness to people around us.
What is The Kindness Rock Project
To put it simply (because it is really that simple!), The kindness rock project involves painting rocks, pebbles or stones and dropping them around your hometown for other people to find.
You can paint shapes, pictures or motivating phrases to put a smile on someones face. It’s a really fun craft, and leaves you with a rewarding feeling of accomplishment.
How to get involved in The Kindness Rock Project…
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
- Paintbrushes
- Paints
- Water
- Marker pens
Start by washing your pebbles, rocks or stones to ensure they’re clean.
Allow them to dry completely before painting.
Choose the side of the pebble that you wish to cover, and paint half of the pebble in a base colour. Repeat this with all of your pebbles in any paint colours you wish.
I painted my stones in a mixture of different colours, this is a great way of using up paints!
Once you have painted the base coat, allow the pebbles to dry.
Now it’s time to get creative. Paint whatever you wish on to your pebbles and make some fun out of it. Examples could be pictures, music quotes, or motivational phrases, anything that you think may make someone smile.
One of my pebbles was the perfect shape to paint a rainbow on. This symbol is currently iconic for thanks the NHS staff during the Coronavirus pandemic. I decided to leave it outside my local hospital for one of the staff to find.
Once you’ve finished painting the pebbles, it’s time to leave them in places around your hometown. Public footpaths, sidewalk wall and parks are just a few examples of where is good to do this.
I made an IGTV video on me doing so. If you would like to watch me and my cheeky dog, Digby, adventure around town with the kindness rocks then you can watch the video below.
