Make & Create:Toiletries Flannel Wrap
It has been SO NICE to finally have a couple of days off in a row! Yesterday I spent the whole day spring cleaning our living room and hallway, and today I tackled the kitchen (yuck), so now I can relax for the rest of the day and enjoy the gorgeous sunshine!
Today I have an extremely useful little ‘life hack’ for you all, which I now think is a MUST for everyone’s toiletries bag. As you all know, last month I did my fair share of travelling around, completing 2 store openings, so for half of April I was pretty much living out of a suitcase! When I returned from Leeds and unpacked my things, I realised how darn annoying it is when your toiletries bag ends up looking like a soapy catastrophe. Shampoo leaking on my moisturiser, strands of hair entangled in my toothbrush and despite toweling down everything before putting it in the bag, it still all ends up DAMP.
So, looking at my soggy flannel and squished tube of toothpaste I had a lighbulb moment (I genuinely look back at this precise moment and see a lighbulb flashing above my head).
Flannel wraps!
I must admit I am pretty proud of myself for conjuring up this ingenuis DIY make!
They are just PERFECT for keeping your toothbrush/toothpaste protected and it separates the soapy from the not-so-soapy, if you know what I mean?!
The best thing about them, is that they’re so simple to make – All you need is:
- Flannel
- Needle & Thread/ Sewing Machine
- Ribbon
- Scissors
- Pins
Begin by folding your flannel to an appropriate length. Use your toothbrush as an indicator for the height it needs to be folded and be aware of the widths you want each pocket to be. Use pins to mark where you want the pockets to be sewn.
Either with a sewing machine or needle and thread, sew straight lines from the top of the pocket down to the fold in the flannel.
Before sewing the right hand side ends of the flannel together, take your piece of ribbon and fold it in half (facing inwards). Tuck the ribbon between the 2 ends of the flannel and pin in position. Be sure to check the ribbon you choose is suitable for a machine wash too!
Ensure all pockets and ends of the flannel are sewn together for it to be complete.
Now all you simply need to do is tuck in your belongings and wrap it up!
Pretty cute huh?!
They would also be fantastic for keeping razors safely wrapped up, or protecting your make-up brushes.
When you’re away you can still use the flannel as normal for your face, leave it to dry before you leave then wrap-and-go! Then when you return you can wash it as usual ready for the next trip!
Voila!
