Spring has Sprung
Well it’s one of my favourite times of the year, when spring is blossoming, the sun is showing his face much more often, and Easter is just around the corner! I’m here with the company of my feline friend, aka Baby Girl, with an afternoon off, a cup of tea, and a crafty idea up my
sleeve!
Easter is less than 2 weeks away, and any occasion is an excuse for more decorations, so that is indeed what I shall be making! To make Easter embroidery thread decorations, you need a fabric stiffener such as Mod Podge or Hi-tack… OR you can be extra crafty like myself, and make your own. To make your own ‘mod podge’ all you have to do is:
- Add However much Craft PVA glue you wish in to a bowl (do not use washable PVA)
- Measure out half the amount of water (should be 2 parts PVA to 1 part water), boil it, then when it’s still hot add it to the PVA glue, then mix in.
- Stir in a small amount of flour- the amount will be dependant on how much glue you originally used, but keep it to a runny consistency, just enough to make it go more gloopy!
- Cover up with cling film (or pour into bottle) and leave to cool down
Start off the decorations by blowing up some balloons, water balloons would work perfectly but normal balloons are fine. You’ll find that with a small amount of air blown in, the balloon is an egg shape which is eggsactly what you want (pardon the pun). Tea is also crucial here… everyone loves tea.
Now when it came to the sticky, gluey part…I genuinely tried to be as tidy as I possibly could be…that failed within minutes!
To start with I even laid down some paper to catch the glue, and used a paintbrush to apply the glue on to the balloons
After minutes, I let my inner child get the better of me and it ALL…
GOT
SO
MESSY!
Even the poor cat got involved with my sticky antics! She definitely chose the wrong time to creep up to me under the table to ask when it was time for dinner!
It was brilliant fun though! Took me back to my childhood days when everything was all about Paper Mache and multicoloured pipe cleaners. ANYWAY, when you’re finished being a big kid you should end up with something that (hopefully) looks like this
Now, all you can do is wait for it to dry… Oh and clean up all the mess you’ve definitely made, and then have another cup of tea.
In hopes that they will dry faster, i’ve tied mine to the balcony…needless to say I had a few dodgy looks from passers by!
For now they are drying off, so i will keep you all updated on the outcome!
