Vintage Florals & Shabby Chic
I was extremely lucky and grateful to my good friend Emily at Simply Saunders for offering me this unused ex display unit from where she works. I saw it and immediately saw the potential for it to be used as a craft display stand for my craft stall…yes please, I’d love it!!
Measuring at 40cm x 60cm this stand will be absolutely ideal for displaying jewelry, handmade key rings or decorations without taking up too much space on the table, but without a doubt, it needed a bit of Gemma‘s special touch and TLC to make it pretty of course!
I found the perfect coloured paint from Laura Ashley‘s new colour collection called Hedgerow, and knew that just a couple of sample pots would suffice, I love the fact that mini paintbrushes are included with the sample pots so less mess and no hassle to clean up afterwards!
I painted all of the surfaces required and touched up the back panels with white paint again just to make it neat and tidy, ready for me to lay down the deco mâché paper.
If you know me well enough by now, then you know that I’m an absolute sucker for some vintage floral decoupage, so this gorgeous deco mâché paper was a major YES! The green leaves match the Laura Ashley Hedgerow paint perfectly.
I carefully measured out the panels that I wanted the floral paper to be laid on and using a mixture of craft PVA glue and water, I slowly layered the paper on to the back using a wet cloth to wipe out any air bubbles and creases.
Intruder alert!
The mixed shades of cream and rose pink flowers on the decoupage paper meant I could add a touch of my dusty pink chalk paint (see my tutorial for mixture here) on to the hangers of my display unit.
Now that I have a super pretty craft display unit to display all of my dingly dangly’s in, it just makes me want to make tons of new things! One step closer to a craft stall 🙂 good job done!
