DIY Up-cycled Tassel Basket
Here’s my quick and simple tutorial to show you how to make a DIY up-cycled tassel basket…
I’m sure a lot of my readers & followers know by now that I’m slightly obsessed with tassels! Tassels are a great way of adding a pop of colour/texture with a fun element. I’m often looking for things around my house that I can add tassels to because they’re a great way of making something a little more unique.
Recently I’ve added some handmade tassels to some plain baskets. Baskets are not only great for storage, but they make for good planters too. I use baskets around my house mainly as planters, and I put a potted plant with dish in the bottom of it so no water seeps out.

It goes without saying that you can jazz up your baskets however you wish. You can vary the length of you tassels, mix up the colours or keep them all the same. I made this tutorial video below so that you can see how I made them. I opted for a colourful selection of tassels, whilst my mum went for blues & purples to match the decor in her living room.

To make your tassels, you will need:
- Wool of your choice
- Scissors
- A piece of card (cut to the length you want your tassel to be)
- Wool needle
It really is quite simple once you know how! For reference, the baskets we used in the video are the FLADIS baskets from Ikea.
The biggest decision you have to make is whether you want to go bold with colour, or keep it super sleek in black & white… The options are endless!
