Take a Tour: Goodhomes Magazine Room Sets @ Ideal Home Show

Interested to know about the upcoming interior trends for this year? Take a tour of the Goodhomes Magazine room sets featured at the Ideal Home Show 2019…

I’ve had such an amazing couple of months working alongside the lovely Jessica Taverner, decorating editor of Goodhomes magazine, creating & styling 8 room sets featured at the Ideal Home Show. The concept of the room sets and stand elevation was designed by the very talented Simone Gordon at Owl Design, then me and my partner in crime, Jess, made that vision come to life.

What’s at the Ideal Home Show?

If you haven’t yet already heard about the Ideal Home Show (if not, then where have you been for the past 109 years?!), it’s an annual, 2 week long exhibition show that takes place at Olympia London. Just for the record, you still have 6 days to see it before it ends this Sunday 7th April, so don’t miss out!

The Ideal Home Show is very much known for bargain hoovers, massage chairs that no-one can really afford (but like the free perks of testing), and kitchen gadget demonstrations of how to grate cheese in the most fast & efficient way. Yep, it’s definitely a day trip to remember and relish in all the home interior bargains.

The Ideal Home Show is also the place where Goodhomes magazine get to showcase the upcoming interior trends for the year, by featuring a series of room sets that are curated of lovely floor and wall coverings, furniture pieces and products from UK home retailers. THIS is where I happily obliged the offer to hop on board the Goodhomes team and plan & style the room sets for the spring 2019 show. Quite honestly, I was over the moon when I got the email asking if I wanted to be involved!

Family Living Room

The Family living room was where we could really let loose with the colour clashing. I found this amazing cobalt blue, Eden corner sofa from Sofa Workshop, and I just knew it would be perfect for the room. The way the blue bounces off the yellow ‘Mustard Jar’ Crown paint was a winner! Along with that, a mixture of colourful accessories and textiles all layered up to create a cosy, homely atmosphere.

Stylist’s Tip:

Picture ledges are such a nifty way of displaying your favourite pieces of art, treasured drawings and memorabilia in a modern and quirky way. Practise laying out different shelving arrangements on the floor beforehand, and position pieces of art in situ to gauge the height of the shelves. This way you can master the layout before committing to the wall!

Garden

Goodhomes Magazine Room sets 2019

Literally bringing the outside in! It’s not easy to create a garden set that’s actually inside. That’s why this amazing, artificial living wall from Ascott was the perfect solution for creating the ‘outdoor’ look, whilst keeping it modern and fresh.

Another huge feature was the gorgeous mosaic tiles from Walls and Floors, which really meant there wasn’t too much styling to be done as we didn’t want anything to distract too much attention away from them. The Regatta furniture was the perfect fit for the set, and finished off with some lovely outdoor cushions from Maisons du Monde.

Stylist’sTip:

Add some outdoor textiles in to your garden to create a cosy, summers evening resting place. Nowadays there’s so many outdoor accessories to get your hands on.. Why not look for outdoor cushions, throws, rugs and pouffe’s to style up your garden? (they do exist!).

Bedroom

I’m going to go straight in on this one and say that pattern clashing is BACK IN! The bedroom features a stunning custom made headboard from KDLoves, and Jess found these exquisite tasseled pendant shades from the very talented Rebecca J Mills, who made them bespoke to our colour choices. Fit for a queen you may say!

Stylist’s Tip:

If you’re going for the pattern clashing look in your bedroom, don’t hold back when choosing your prints. Create a mood board, or order in fabric samples so you can see the designs laid out on paper first. Then, choose which ones you think are fit for the job. Layer loads of textures and cushions to create a luxurious ambience, and break up the patterns with block colour cushions & throws.

Ensuite Bathroom

I can practically hear your ‘ooh’s and aahh’s through the screen… Not to blow our own trumpets but this bathroom design has gone down extremely well! Simone at Owl Design chose the most stunning tiles from Walls and Floors, and came up with the clever concept of bringing the tiles down halfway along the parallel walls. This immediately draws the attention to the amazing Tubby Torre bath from Albion which sits proudly along the back wall. The floral wallpaper from Cole & Sons was the perfect finish for this elegant room.

Stylist’s Tip:

Bathroom storage cupboards & counters can get so cluttered and unloved, so why not display some of your favourite toiletries on a nice shelving unit? This way you can hide away the not-so-pretty bottles, and display your favourite pieces to create that relaxing, zen atmosphere.

Modern Living Room

If you know me well, then you’ll know that I’m a sucker for anything mid-century style. That’s why I most enjoyed styling this mid-century modern living room that features 70s style wallpaper from Cole and Sons, and this button-backed Camden sofa from DFS. To create this room our main thought was ‘quirky’. Any accessories that had a somewhat unique charm was perfect for this room! Again with the pattern clashing and bold prints – can you tell that’s what I love doing best?!

Stylist’s Tip:

Don’t be afraid to mix up furniture that has different wood types. As long as it’s all the same tone, it will work! Mixing up the furniture will break the consistency a little bit and make the room feel a little less regimented, and a little more individual. Really focus on products that you genuinely like, not what you think you should like because of colours/trends. Sometimes the key to making an aesthetically perfect room comes down to mixing and matching products, and you can only experiment this with pieces that you actually love…

Boot Room/Hallway

Yep we have another winner of a wallpaper here from Cole & Sons. This boot room is situated next to the living room above, so we needed to choose furniture and accessories that complimented the contemporary style. It was important not to add anything to drastic in here because the wallpaper was such a feature for itself. So we opted for a nice bench seat and open wardrobe from Perch and Parrow. P.S… Can you spot my coat and shoes? That orange coat was made for this room!

Stylist Tip:

An open wardrobe is a great way of storing all coats and scarves in a fashionable and tidy way. If you’re lacking storage cupboards it can be a great problem solver for this. A bench in the hallway is also ideal as it gives you somewhere to sit whilst putting on your shoes… I know there’s probably a fair few of you who are used to sitting at the bottom of the stairs to do this!

Kitchen/Diner

Alas, the kitchen diner! I think out of all the room sets the feedback on this one has been the best, and often been named as ‘the fave!’. Perhaps it’s loved for our use of 50 shades of pink?! Or the unique curved cabinets that we had custom made from Daclus Woodworks? Whatever it is, it’s gone down a storm and we’re loving hearing all of your great feedback about it.

The warm tones of the Karndean Mountain Oak flooring was the perfect base for everything to sit on. Then, we went wild with corals and blush pinks colour choices from Crown Paints. The custom made coral shutters from Hillarys were a huge hit, and it genuinely was a lucky fluke that it was an exact colour match to the unique floor lamp from HouseOf.

Danetti kindly loaned us the dining table and chairs, along with two bar stools and a footstool. They’re hosting an amazing giveaway for a chance to win all of it… It’s worth over £1500! Following this link here to find the details on how to enter for your chance to win!

On the other side of the room we feature this amazing blush pink kitchen from Masterclass Kitchens. The amount of people I’ve heard swooning over it is uncountable! To tie in the coral, Simone decided to mis-match coloured wall tiles to create a feature splash back using Walls and Floors tiles. I’m in love with everything about this room. It’s going to be such a shame on Sunday having to take it all down!

Stylist’s Tip:

If you’re thinking of adding 5 shades of ‘something’ to a room, be sure to order in a ton of samples beforehand. Test paint colours on the walls, and order in samples when needed. There’s a fine line between colour co-ordinating and colour clashing in the wrong way. I’m all for the colour clashing, but when you’re focusing on one base colour, it can be considerably trickier!

So there we have it, my tour of the Goodhomes room sets at the Ideal Home Show has come to an end! What room set is your favourite?!
