Kids Bedroom Decor Ideas

Is your kid eager to have a bedroom makeover? Perhaps they’ve outgrown their current scheme, so you’re looking for fun ideas on how to add some style to their room. Here’s my top 6 kids bedroom decor ideas to add some wow factor.

[As seen in previous issues of Ideal Home Magazine] As an interior stylist, I’ve been lucky to work on some really exciting briefs. My favourite shots to style are in fact kids decor shots, despite not actually having kids myself (yet). I love bringing together a scheme and working with all the fun accessories. Maybe this is just my way of knowing that inside I’m still just a big kid, who knows!

Kids bedroom decor ideas…

I’ve worked on some really fun kids shots in previous issues for Ideal Home Magazine, which has prompted me to conjure up this post to put them all in one place. If you’re looking for fun ways to revamp your little ones bedroom, and want some design inspo, then stick with me!

Colour-block desk space

A simple-yet stylish idea! Simply paint a rectangle in any colour of your choice on the wall, and measure it to be the same width as two shelves. Paint the shelves in the same colour as the wall, and level the bottom shelf at a good height for a workspace.

Stylists tip!

Try and colour clash the wall to the accessories and toys so that they stand out against it. Use storage boxes to hide away messy clutter, and get a fun noticeboard/wire rack to display homework/weekly chores list.

Open Wardrobe

Fix a basic drawer unit (minus the drawers) to the wall. This provides a deep storage space for clothes and shoes, whilst saving precious floor space. Adding a length of dowel to the side creates a useful hanging rail too. Perfect for a kids room, but also great for adults too!

Stylists tip!

In a shared room, use different colours for each child or guest. This creates a fun colour-blocking scheme to the space and , makes it feel well designed.

Low-down Cabinet

Hang a cabinet on a wall low down to create a space that your little one has easy access too. Perfect for teaching them to tidy up themselves, and gives them easy access to their favourite toys! Paint a fun graphic on the cabinet to make a feature of it. Either similar to shown above or even chalkboard paint could be a great idea for them to draw on.

Stylist’s tip

Along with the cabinet, hang a line of coat hooks next to it to make more of a focal point. Paint a band of colour around the room to colour block it all together.

Tucked away workspace

Make use of awkward spaces by building in a cosy nook for a desk. Alcoves could be brilliant for this as well as the side of any built in furniture. Paint a noticeboard in the same colour as a wall for seamless look, and add a wall hung lamp on the inside of a cabinet/wall to maximise surface space.

Stylists tip!

Make the noticeboard a piece of art and keep it looking smart and simple. Display favourite toys/photos and postcards to add an element of fun.

Striped Organisation Station

This is a brilliant idea if you want to make fun of keeping clothes & bags tidy. A brilliant feature for a wall too! Simply paint some Ikea Bekvam stools in any colour of your choice and paint a matching striped band above them on the wall. Use this space to hang coats/scarves & lunch bags.

Stylists tip!

This works best if painting on to a white wall. In rooms with more than one child, you can use each section separately and paint their favourite colour on the wall.

Hidden Toy Storage

No child wants to put their favourite cuddly toys in a scary dark box. Here’s a solution that keeps them neat, whilst still letting them play and speak to each other. Hang a scarf organiser on the inside of a wardrobe door, and poke the toys heads though the holes. This way, less toys will be cluttering up the room, and will make the room feel tidier.

Stylist’s tip!

When hanging the hook on the inside of the door, make sure you get the right height so your little one can still reach their beloved toys!
