6 Simple-but-clever storage solutions for your bedroom…
Here’s another feature I had the pleasure of styling for Ideal Home Magazine. Bedroom storage can be a right bugger to conjure up. It needs to be a room that’s highly functional, yet remain a place that you can feel relaxed in.
When planning this feature, I wanted to make sure I covered all areas and came up with varying ideas that could suit any bedroom. I know more than well that small bedroom spaces can be a nightmare for storage ideas, so hopefully this post can help inspire you and give you some ideas for your own home!
1 . Skinny Vanity Unit
A skinny vanity unit is a great way of maximising space but still giving you somewhere to get ready and store your accessories, scarves/make-up. This 22cm deep shoe cabinet from IKEA works well as a dressing in a tight space.
Stylist’s Tip: Adding leather handles can give the unit a more -high-end, bespoke look. The ones above were purchased from Etsy UK!
2 . Alcove Cupboards
Here’s an idea for those who want to add depth to a boring square room. Create alcoves with built in floor-to-ceiling cupboards either side of your bed. Connect them with a full width headboard and colour match it to the cupboards to give a streamline, designer look. This then doubles up as a shelf to show off and store your fave nick-nacks.
Stylist’s Tip: Use a bold wallpaper above the headboard to finish the look. Coordinate your bedlinen with the cupboards and wallpaper and you’ll have a hotel-chic bedroom with plenty of storage space.
3 . Bookcase-turned-bench
Place a sturdy shelf unit on it’s side to create a bench with storage cubbies. At the end of the bed this makes a perfected bench/ottoman style feature. Perfect for storing shoes, scarves or spare bedlinen. I also added gold feet for an extra special detail.
Stylist’s Tip: Have a piece of foam cut to size and upholster it in a fabric that coordinates with your bedroom. This now makes a comfy place for you to sit at the end of your bed!
4 . Wardrobe/Cupboard door storage
Want to maximise the space in a bedroom cupboard/wardrobe? Here’s a solution for you! Use over-the-door hooks, a key organiser and a kitchen rail with s hooks to keep your favourite accessories tidy, and ready to gab and go!
Stylist’s Tip: Paint the door for a flash of colour to brighten up the room. Use a nice door knob to make a feature of the door.
5 . Styling station
Fix up a stack of three wooden spice racks from IKEA (just £3 each!). They serve well as mini shelves for hair products and make-up accessories.
Stylist’s Tip: Fix the bottom shelf upside down to make a hanging rail for your hair tools. You now have a clever styling station to help speed up your morning routine!
6 . Above the bed ceiling shelf
In a box room, make a feature of a high shelf on decorative brackets. With gran-handled baskets that fit flush to the ceiling. A perfect solution for storage, that doesn’t intrude into the space!
Stylist’s Tip: Label the baskets with luggage tags so you can easily identify what is in each basket. Use to store accessories, books or souvenirs!
