Storage Fixes For the Bedroom

Your public rooms may be clutter free, but what about your private ones? These clever storage fixes for the bedroom will help you make the most of every bit of space…

[As seen in Ideal Home Magazine May 2020] Back again with another storage fix feature! I know you love them as it is one of the most researched & googled interior topics. My last bedroom storage post went down rather well, so I’m back with some fresh ideas to help those who may still be feeling a little uninspired! Want more storage ideas? Here’s what I’ve got for you…

Storage fixes for the bedroom…

Earlier this year I had the pleasure of styling yet another feature for Ideal Home Magazine, and we’ve conjured up some more storage ideas for the bedroom that we think you’ll love. If you’re struggling to store linens, clothes and accessories, then hopefully one of these ideas will suit you.

Invisible Cupboards

Paint a row of wall-hung cabinets the same colour as the top half of the wall behind. Then, use the bottom of the cupboards as the level for for a lower band colour across the room. This helps the storage blend in, whilst adding a great design element to the room.

Stylists tip!

Carry the band of colour around the entirety of the room for a cohesive look. Include alcoves/ chimney breasts.

Styling Station

A panel of corkboard fixed to the wall above a chest/vanity unit is a clever way to hang jewellery and clear some surface space. Cut the cork to fit between a shelf bracket, and keep boxes/baskets on top out of sight.

Stylist’s tip!

Use pretty pins to hang the jewellery from to make it look smart. Don’t over-clutter the corkboard otherwise it will look messy, instead make a display of your favourite pieces.

Open Wardrobe

Fix a basic drawer unit (minus the drawers) to the wall. This provides a deep storage space for clothes and shoes, whilst saving precious floor space. Adding a length of dowel to the side creates a useful hanging rail too. Perfect for a kids room, but also great for adults too!

Stylists tip!

In a shared room, use different colours for each child or guest. This creates a fun colour-blocking scheme to the space and , makes it feel well designed.

Storage Headboard

Not only does a storage headboard provide handy shelves and hidden storage, but it can also double up as a bedside table to stop a compact room feeling cluttered. Team with a storage divan base to stash away spare bedlinen or out-of-season clothes.

Stylist’s tip!

Use the shelves and surface space as a way of displaying some of your favourite knick-knacks. Don’t over-fill or make it feel cluttered otherwise it will make the room feel less relaxing.

Foldaway Work Space

For bedrooms that double as offices (or homework zones), this fold-down desk table blends storage with tabletop space. Paint it to match the walls for a seamless, bespoke effect.

Stylists tip!

Paint the inside of the desk in a contrasting colour shade for a pop of colour when pulled down.

Hideaway Dressing Table

Built-in alcove cupboards max out the storage potential of a chimney breast wall. The shallow section over the chimney itself needn’t go to waste though, if you add floating shelves above it, it will create a hideaway vanity table.

Stylists tip!

Folding doors shut away the clutter when the table is not in use!
