Storage Ideas For Every Room in Your House

Stuck for storage? No problem! I’m here with some simple storage ideas for every room in your house…

[ As seen in February 2020 issue of Ideal Home Magazine ]. Earlier this year I had the pleasure of styling another 6 page decorating feature for Ideal Home Magazine, and the scheme was all-things-storage related. It seems it’s one of the most googled topics in the interior industry, so we have answered your calls and come up with some storage ideas for every room in your house.

A place for everything…

It’s so easy to let clutter take over your home, especially when there’s not enough space to tidy things away. Hopefully these ideas will inspire you to be more creative in your homes, and ensure that everything has its own designated space to be stored away in.

Let’ take you on a virtual tour around the house, and see what ideas we have for you…

Hallway

Storage ideas for the hallway

Multiple shoe cabinets in a grid format gives you a slim-and-slick style, plus a display surface to show off some accessories.  Keep the floor clear by wall-mounting them to help make the space feel more open.

Stylist’s tip!

White units on a white wall maximises the feeling of space. Don’t over-clutter the surface with unnecessary things, keep it simple and smart to make the area feel like an artistic focal point.

Living Room

Fix and MDF panel to the wall and mount your TV and two floating shelves on it. A drawer unit and drum storage stools under the lower shelf give you and extra hiding space for junk!

Stylists tip!

Paint the MDF and shelves the same colour for a sleek, interior designed look. This will make the area feel contained and create a colour-blocking focal point.

Kitchen

Storage idea for the kitchen

This wall rack idea for the kitchen is actually a set of webbing-mounted bed slats! With a couple of smart wall hooks and s-hooks, creates a perfect space for hanging utensils & kitchenware. Make a focal point out of your favourite kitchen bits and bobs, and give them a place to hang proudly.

Stylists tip!

This idea is not only fab for the kitchen, but a great idea for a bathroom/hallway/kids room too! Use really nice hook to make the piece feel more bespoke.

Back-to-wall seating means you can push your table back to create more space. Two wall dresser units either side of a bench will turn the area in to a cosy nook with tons of storage space over a narrow footprint.

Stylists tip!

Get two pieces of foam cut-to-size to create a seat pad & back pad for the bench area. this will make the space feel more designed.

Bedroom

Boost bedroom storage with a row of low cabinets at the end of the bed. This idea is esepcially great in a study bedroom/guest bedroom and it creates a space for books, paperwork and linens. Try and ensure the cabinets line up with the end of the bed.

Stylist’s tip!

Create a cohesive colour scheme and match the cabinets as similar as possible to the colour of your headboard.

Alcove / Laundry cupboard

Chunky shelves and some lovely baskets is all it takes to create a stylish home for linens. Fix the bottom shelf high enough to fit laundry baskets beneath. A perfect idea for an alcove space or airing cupboard.

Stylists tip!

Use parcel tags to label the baskets so things don’t get mixed up. Two laundry baskets is a brilliant idea too, to separate your light and dark washing loads.
