6 Simple Handmade Gift ideas

It’s that time of year when we all need some inspiration and ideas on what to get our nearest and dearest, so I thought I’d share these 6 simple handmade gift ideas…

As some of you may know well, I absolutely LOVE getting my craft on and spending some time to get creative. During the run up to Christmas, I’m often getting asked if I have any ideas of simple handmade gift ideas, so I’ve created this post to hopefully give you some festive inspo.

Simple Handmade Gift Ideas…

All of these ideas are inexpensive, and can be crafted in just one day. These ideas are great to make in bulk too, if you have lots of people you want to make them for.

1.Decoupage Candles

Handmade Decoupage Candles

This is one of my most viewed crafting posts. Everyone loves this simple decoupage candle idea. All you simply need is some pretty napkins, some candles and a hair dryer. You can make these easily in less than an hour.

2.Handmade Clay Coasters

Handmade clay coasters

I had the pleasure of making these lovely clay coasters in collaboration with the Hobbycraft Blog. They’re really so simple to make with air drying clay, and very fun to decorate.

Simply make a matching set of 4, then tie up with ribbon for a lovely handmade gift.

3.Lavender Sachets

Handmade Lavender Sachets

I was thrilled when the Laura Ashley blog asked me to make these lavender sachets, and be a guest blogger for them. These lavender sachets were great fun to make and had my whole house smelling divine!

All you need is a collection of lovely fabric scraps, ribbons, embellishments of your choice and eyelets. I spent a long afternoon sewing these which was lovely whilst watching some naff day time television!

You can find the full craft tutorial on how to make these here.

4.DIY Clay Plant Pots

This was another fun craft made with air-drying clay. It’s great using this material as you can leave it to dry for a while and go back to it another time. I didn’t do anything fancy with my plant pots, they’ve got quite a ‘rustic’, shabby chic feel to them.

5.Macrame Plant Hanger

Keeping with the theme of plants, I made this Macrame plant hanger last year and it’s still hanging proudly in my house. This gift idea is perfect for those green-fingered friends who love a bit of boho style. It can be easily made with some chord and a bowl/plant pot. Charity shop thrifting is the perfect place to find cheap second hand pots!

It took no longer than two hours to make, you can find the full tutorial here.

6.Heart Garland

Handmade heart garland

The perfect craft for using up all of those scrap pieces of fabric. This simple handmade heart garland is a lovely gift for both friends and family.

If you want to switch it up, you can change the shape and fabrics to suit the person you are giving it to. For example, to make a Christmas garland you could have star shaped pouches in red and green colours instead.
